Welcome to Playing with the wind. If you'd like to find out about the work we do, adopt or sponsor one of our animals, or make a donation, you've come to the right place! Take a look around, meet the gang and join us in helping animals in need.
Social and political changes in Bulgaria over the years have meant many animals, particularly cats and dogs are abandoned and end up on the streets, attempting to fend for themselves; inevitably sustaining injury, disability and illness through neglect or persecution. Old and run down state shelters are inadequate in both space and facilities to meet the demand faced by an ever increasing population of unwanted and surplus animals. Many large animals are still used for working purposes, such as pulling carts and working the land. Much ignorance about their husbandry and welbeing exists.
Our purpose Here at playing with the wind is to encourage and produce change by giving shelter, medical care, rehabilitation and training within our sanctuary whilst providing a neutering, vaccination and anti paracite programme for local street dogs. Along side this, providing help, information and 24 hour support to all prospective and current animal parents.
To work with Mayor, police and relevant authorities to encourage neutering and uphold welfare laws.
One of our animals (Huckleberry) needs to have a thyroid test and blood test which will determine the medication She needs to get better.
She has always had really bad skin, eyes and ears. Her skin bleeds and cracks and gets infected and sometimes she can hardly see. She has been on steroids for ages but now a vet has bought a thyroid blood machine.
We think her thyroid is at fault, she has typical "rat tail" (bald at the end) and responds positively to steroids. So now We would like to get her on the right meds as the steroids are sooo risky.
The tests alone cost £60 so we’re setting a goal! Can you guys help us raise the funds to help Huckleberry? Every little helps, we’ll post regular updates on the progress of our goal as well as Huckleberry’s journey. On our facebook page so be sure to go give it a like.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
